There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
